Sixteen years is a long time to wait for your true love to reappear,
and, anyway, Nicki Johnson couldn’t wait for the impossible to happen.
Hard life lessons have taught her that fairy tales are children’s
stories, and fate is cruel. Burying her hopes, she’s spent the last
sixteen years focused and driven toward her career, and it’s landed her
with a job at the White House with a gem of a boyfriend. But when her
high school love, Adam Kincaid, walks into the White House as a BBC
reporter, Nicki’s world is thrown into turmoil as she relives their
past. Adam has come back for her, but has he arrived too late?
The hardest lies to maintain are the ones you tell yourself. For me, one way or another, the truth always seeped through the cracks of my brain.
Disclosure of the Heart starts off where Beside Your Heart left off. The last chapter in Beside Your Heart is told from Adam's POV, when he first sees Nicki again after sixteen years. I LOVED that Mary Whitney gave us Nicki's POV when she first sees Adam- this is the same scene that we read from Adam's POV in Beside Your Heart.
Why? Why was he in my life again? Was he just passing through? Or was there a reason?
Nicki Johnson character has developed from the sixteen year old girl we met in Beside Your Heart. She is a grown successful women with a job in the white house and a loving boyfriend. Nicki has partially moved on with her life and is happy with the steady life she has been living- working and loving her boyfriend. When Adam strolls back into her life after sixteen years of not hearing anything from him, her life becomes unsteady with the emotions Adam is making her feel. We all remember the selfish and indecisive sixteen year old Nicki right? Well she still is selfish and indecisive when it comes to coming to terms with how she feels about Adam. I felt like slapping her because she did get on my nerves. But I can understand why she is so indecisive- Adam did cheat on her in Beside You Heart- but the poor guy said he was sorry and demonstrated how much he loved her. Any way Nicki has to make the decision to give Adam and their relationship a second try, or stay with her job and her loving boyfriend. I did love that Nicki's character is more mature in Disclosure of the Heart, and that she does think about the decisions she makes in her life more clearly.
“I’m falling in love with you again.”
Adam Kinclaid is just a freaking sweetheart. I didn't know what to expect from his character in Disclosure of the heart because he still loves Nicki, but he respects that she is in a relationship. But yet again he is also in a current relationship with "Lady" Felicity. Adam won my heart all over again in Disclosure of the Heart, because he has changed from the selfish sixteen year old boy he was in Beside Your Heart. I did like him in Beside Your Heart, but I felt that he just thought about himself when he and Nicki were in a relationship. In Disclosure of the Heart he thinks more of what Nicki wants, and what will make her happy. Adam is back ladies! He is determined to get Nicki back in his life and he will do everything to convince her that he is there to stay forever.
There were multiple connections between us. We were tied to one another whether I wanted to be his friend or not.
Adam and Nicki's relationship is a little bit awkward at the beginning. Nicki wanted to just avoid Adam at the beginning, because she didn't know how to react to his appearance back into her life. She wants to keep all contact with Adam professional. Unlike, Adam who wants to jump back into Nicki's life and act like everything was good between them. Adam and Nicki decide to be "just friends" when they start to hang out with each other more than two professionals discussing work. But Nicki can't lie to herself when she starts to realize that being friends with Adam isn't going to work. They don't have a lot of hot sex scenes or hot moments as much as they did in Beside Your Heart. But there were sweet swoon moments, and the reconciliation sex was just amazingly hot. Adam and Nicki's relationship is stable now that they both have matured. Nicki gives Adam the support he gave her in Beside Your Heart, and Adam shows that he will never leave her life again. I want to just say that I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED both David and Lisa :D! OMG, they hade me laughing with their flirtation. I loved David in Beside Your Heart and I was glad that he made an appearance in Disclosure of the Heart. Lisa is Nicki's conscious, because she always makes Nicki second guess her own decisions. She knows what Nicki truly wants in her life and what makes her happy. I'm hoping Mary Whitney writes a book for David and Lisa's story. I want more David and Lisa, even if it's just a novella.
We’d gotten back together because the ties from our past were too strong to ignore.
Disclosure of the Heart by Mary Whitney was everything I expected and wanted to read about Adam and Nicki's story. I was left with wanting more at the end of Beside Your Heart, and Mary Whitney delivered the perfect meeting between them in Disclosure of the Heart. It was the perfect moment for Adam and Nicki to meet again after sixteen years :D! Again I loved reading from Adam's POV at the end of Disclosure of the heart. I know there is a third installment in this series, Forever Your Heart, and I hope that it's told from Adam's POV. Can't wait to read Forever Your Heart :D!Final Verdict: 4 Stars
Even before she graduated from law school, Mary knew she wasn’t cut out to be a real lawyer. Drawn to politics, she’s spent her career as an organizer, lobbyist, and nonprofit executive. Nothing piques her interest more than a good political scandal or romance, and when she stumbled upon writing, she put the two together. A born Midwesterner, naturalized Texan, and transient resident of Washington, D.C., Mary now lives in Northern California with her two daughters and real lawyer husband.
