Title: Effortless With You
Author: Lizzy Charles
Series: Stand Alone
Publication Date: August 12, 2013
Genre: YA Contemporary Romance
Source: e-arc provided by publisher for my honest thoughts and review.
Description from Goodreads:
School is out and Lucy
is ready for the perfect summer: lazy days at the pool, invitations to
the most exclusive parties, and romantic dates with her hot new
boyfriend. That is, until she lands in trouble one too many times and
her parents issue the ultimate punishment: a summer job. Suddenly, the
summer can't end fast enough.
To make matters worse, the job is painting houses with Justin, the most popular, egotistical guy in school. Spending all summer with Justin might be other girls' dreams, but definitely not Lucy's. After all, Justin is cocky, annoying, and a jerk. So what if he's the most beautiful jerk Lucy's ever seen? Or that his grin makes her forget she’s mad at the world? Or that maybe, just maybe, there's more to Justin than Lucy realizes. Only one thing is certain: it won’t be the summer she wanted, but it might be exactly the one she needs.

My Thoughts:
Effortless With You was just the kind of read I was looking for this summer :D!
The main character, Lucy, is your typical 16 year old girl trying to fit in. My relationship with Lucy was a hate and love relationship. I disliked her character in some parts in the story. Why? Well she was just too snarky with her parents and she did not have a spine of her own. But I loved that her character matures as the story progresses. She learns to heal the broken relationship she has with her family. She grows a spine of her own, by finding herself again and learning who she truly is. Overall, I loved that Lucy's character matures by the end of the story and that she is able to become a strong, independent teenager :D!
Where to begin with Justin?!?!?! This boy just swooned me throughout the whole story. He is just the most sweetest, caring, thoughtful, and giving guy. I absolutely LOVED Justin's character. At the beginning of the story I thought he was really full of himself. I was completely wrong with this. He cares for others and he works so hard to prove himself worthy of others respect. Why? Well because his father is really important and is going to become senator, so everyone thinks that he gets everything served in a platter. But that is so not true. Justin is the one who helps Lucy get back on track with her life. He always offers Lucy his shoulder to lean on, even if she doesn't realize it or wants to acknowledge it. Plus he is such a gentlemen with Lucy. I would love to have a guy like Justin in my life :D!
Lucy and Justin's relationship does not start off smoothly. Lucy actually hates Justin and believes that he is just one of those guys that think that people should bow down for them. How does their relationship develop? Well Lucy's parents get her a job in a house painting company, and guess who works there? Justin of course, and he gets to pick up Lucy every morning to take to work. There interactions with each other at the very beginning are just Justin annoying the hell out of Lucy (this is how Lucy's character sees it). But Lucy's annoyance towards Justin develops into love. She realizes the amazing guy Justin truly is.
Effortless with You by Lizzy Charles was just a really enjoyable read right from the beginning and all the way to the end. There is love, friendship, romance, betrayal, summer, and trying to find who you truly are to live the life you always wanted to live. I recommend everyone to add and buy Effortless With You by Lizzy Charles. I know I have an arc, but I am still going to buy it. Why? Because this is a book that I can see myself re-reading before the summer is over :D! Thank you Lizzy Charles for delivering an enjoyable summer read, with lovable characters.
Final Verdict: 4.5 Stars
About the Author:
When Lizzy Charles
isn’t scrambling to raise her two spunky toddlers or caring for premature and
sick babies as a neonatal intensive care nurse, she’s in a quiet corner writing
or snuggled up with a novel and a few squares of dark chocolate. Black tea
keeps her constant and she loves guacamole. She married her high school sweet
heart, a heart-melting musician, so it’s no surprise she’s fallen in love with
writing contemporary YA romance novels.
