My Thoughts:
I may have come back to this farm house to escape my old life, but for the first time in a few weeks, I am kind of looking forward to the summer.
This is the first book I've read by Elizabeth Lee ( I have Give Me Something, but have not read it yet), and let me just tell you that I am a FAN of her writing. I loved reading from both Whitney's and Cole's POV. Escaping Me by Elizabeth Lee was a fantastic read for my summer :D! This is one of those books that you can enjoy reading at the beach or outside in your backyard. Whitney's and Cole's story was just freaking amazing.
...all I know is how to care about what other people think.
Let me start of with our heroine in the story- Whitney. Ok, I had a few problems with her character at the beginning of the story, but towards the end she learned to stand up for what she believes. From the beginning of the story Whitney is a spineless girl, that can't voice her own thoughts on what she believes. Her whole life she has been dictated by her father and her boyfriend- they always want her to be someone she is not. Whitney is a pleaser person, she would do what others expect her to do or want her to do to make them happy. Girl this is so wrong! Now, when she didn't stand up for Cole- the moment her father meets him- I just wanted to slap her across the face. What are you doing Whitney? Her is an incredible guy that has showed you how much he loves you, and would do anything for you. What happens? The girl just seats there. But thank god she learns to speak her mind out, and stand up to her father. I seriously gave her some applause for this, because it was not easy for her. Yes, I learned to love Whitney's character and relate to some of the things she experiences in the story :).
I accepted the fact that the ticket I'd won was for a one-way trip to worthless—just like my folks.
OMG COLE!!! Alright this boy here is just a freaking hot mess. He is your typical bad boy that comes from a screwed up family- mom's a drunk and dad's been in jail. He got picked on a lot when he was younger, because his parents were just messed up. Everyone thought he was going to end up like them. But were these people wrong. Cole has a tough, cocky, bad boy, don't mess with me or I'll kick-your-ass exterior. But deep down he is a caring, loving, protective, and thoughtful guy. One thing that I loved about his character is that he does not beat around the bush, he is pretty much a straightforward guy. I love the fact that he is not one of those guys that just walks out, when you are having an argument. It made me sad when he thought that he was not worthy of Whitney's love, or that he didn't deserve all the good things that were happening to him. But that is just how his character is. He can be super confident in one moment, and the next he can feel so insecure about himself. This only changes towards the end of the book, but I could didn't pay much attention to it since I just LOVE COLE!
Aside from the obvious physical attraction, we balance each other out.
The chemistry between these two is just like magnets- opposites attract :D! You have your usual good girl (not all that innocent) falls for the bad boy. Just with there first kiss is was like wow. I have to say that I was proud of Whitney when she took the reins on that kiss (two thumbs up girl)! The physical attraction and connection between these two is just SPICY HOT! The sex between these two is amazing, and one of my favorite has to be the tree scene and the make-up sex ;). But their relationship is not all sex. Cole helps Whitney break out of her shell and grow a spine for herself. He is the first guy in her life to ever let her decide what she wants to do with her life, and let's her speak her thoughts out. On the other hand, Whitney brings out the better side of Cole that no ones really knows exist. She makes him into a better men, that learns to be confident of the things he does and be proud of his achievements. Really loved the relationship between these two :D!
At least now I know that I have something worth fighting for... literally and figuratively.
Escaping Me by Elizabeth Lee was an amazing book. It is about two people who fall in love, and bring out the best in each other. Whitney is able to escape the fake life she was living, and develop a new life where she is able to express who she really is. Cole is able to escape the messed up life he had, and develop a new life where he becomes the better men that no one thought he could be. Thank you Elizabeth Lee for this wonderful love story :D!
Final Verdict: 5 Stars
About the Author:
When I'm not writing or playing the part of wife
and mother, you can find me dancing back-up for Beyonce, singing back-up for
Miranda, or sunning myself on the beach with a drink in hand. Here's the thing about being born and raised
in a small town—you have a very vivid imagination! Now, I channel it all to create stories where
the girl always ends up with the right guy, first kisses are magical, and a
happy ending is just that!
