Excerpt:
Christian looks at me. I wait for a smart-aleck reply or a smile but get neither. Just his blue eyes sucking me in like a whirlpool. “That’s what I thought you would say. So you just have to keep fighting for it. Keep fighting to get it back.”
My eyes won’t leave his and his won’t leave mine. And he’s cute. God, he’s so cute, I just want to focus on his cuteness. I want that to be all that matters. When his hand comes up and cups my cheek, I gasp. He brushes his thumb under my eye and licks his lips and I’m frozen and on fire and close to having a heart attack and anxious all at the same time.
Slowly, he leans forward and I know he’s giving me time. And my heart is leaping and I want to feel his lips. This is Christian. The boy who asked me to dance. The boy I ran to my mom about and told her that I loved. And now he’s my friend. The first person who has made me feel normal since everything happened.
But I’m so scared. Scared of messing it up. Scared he’ll decide he doesn’t want me. Scared of losing him. Of getting hurt.
He gets closer and I smell his sweet, sugary scent. See his mouth and wet lips and that hair I want to touch.
See the one person besides Emery who I have. The one person I can’t lose. “Wait,” I say and Christian stops moving. He’s still close. So very, very close that his lips are only an inch away from mine. “I’m scared,” I admit.
“I won’t hurt you.”
And I swear a part of me believes him. Maybe all of me. But how do I know if that’s the right decision or not?
He runs his hand down my face and touches my hair. Love that he’s not nervous to do it the way I am with him and I watch his fingers, brown against my red hair.
“Go out with me, Bryntastic. Let’s go do something this weekend. Don’t keep running. I won’t even try to kiss you again unless you tell me to. Or I’ll wait for you to do it. Just let go. Live.”
His words are what I want. I want them so badly and they sound so perfect that it’s hard not to just scream, “Yes!” right now. “Why?” I ask him. “Why are you so nice to me?”
I love his strength. Love that he doesn’t even hesitates before saying, “Because you were my first crush. Because I used to watch you conqueror anything and used to listen to you laugh with your friends. You were happy and I loved your smile. Because I had to work up the courage to ask you to dance and I did, and then I left and the one thing I missed was that smile. I watched my sister lose hers and watched my family fall apart and when I came back here? I wanted to see your smile again. Because you’re beautiful when you smile and you’ve lost it now. I want you to conquer this because what the hell is the purpose in it all if the first girl I ever danced with loses her smile?”
I don’t realize I’m crying until Christian wipes my tears. “You think I’m beautiful?”

Blog Tour (Review) & Giveaway: Playing With Fire by Ashley Piscitelli
Welcome to my stop for the Playing With Fire by Ashley Piscitelli Blog Tour, hosted by Mary Elizabeth's Crazy Book Obsession :D! I was super excited to be chosen to be part of the blog tour. For my stop you can read my 4.5 star review :D!
Title: Playing With Fire
Author: Ashley Piscitelli
Series: Guarded Hearts #1
Publication Date: July 15, 2013
Genre: New Adult
Source: e-arc was provided by author for the blog tour for my honest opinion/review
Synopsis:
Madison Stevens has had a shitty life, her mother died at the age four and her father has always blamed her for it. She went through the foster system and is now attending college. Her boyfriend Chris is not willing to share Madison with anyone, not even her friends.
Her first day at college she meets Carter James, who makes her want everything she never thought she could have. She knows that she should ignore her feelings for Carter, but it's not as easy as it sounds.
As Carter and Madison begin to fall in love, they face many obstacles. Their biggest one is Chris who is not going to let her go easily.
Playing with Fire will be the first book in a three book series. It is about the obstacles that stand in your way on the path to love. It tests the characters strength and commitment to each other on every level from old boyfriend/girlfriends, to insecurities, and throws a little violence and scheming into the mix.
"Chris was like fire. It was pretty to look at but if you got too close you got burnt, and if it wasn’t controlled it would destroy everything in its path. Doing what I was about to do with Carter was dangerous, but what can I say I never had parents to warn me not to play with fire."

My Thoughts:
Before reading the synopsis of Playing with Fire, I thought it was going to be a New Adult paranormal book (the cover looks like it would be paranormal). But after reading the synopsis I got a contemporary romance/ realistic fiction interpretation :D! Playing with Fire was a great read, and it just kept me flipping through the pages. This has been one of the fastest reads that I've read so far :).
I hate that I always immediately think the worst of people. I wish I was the kind of person that could give their trust to someone.
I had a love and hate relationship with Madison's character. Let me start by saying that I loved how she started to pump up her self-esteem (all thanks to Carter), because her self-esteem was so low at the beginning. She always thought she was worthless- that no one needed her or would ever love her. But she is not to blame for feeling this way. I just felt that she was so broken from inside, as if she were almost hollow. I just felt sorry for the situations her character goes through. I did not really hate her character that much, because really she is sweet and lovable. I only hated that her self-esteem was so low. But loved that she became confident with herself, learned to love herself, and let others in her life.
She had a story and I was dying to find out what it was.
I fell in love with Carter's character :D! I don't usually fall for the nice and sweet boys in books, but I had to make another exception with Carter's character. He is just any amazing guy. No guy would ever stand next to Madison side, and support her the way Carter did. I feel in love with the way he supported, helped, loved, and cherished Madison. He is just your typical good, caring, loving, protective, sweet, and cute guy. Carter is Madison's hope to actually living a new life full of love and caring people. Without Carter Madison would have never been brave enough to take the steps she needed to get out of her situation.
Sometimes, I've thought about leaving him but, the truth is, I am scared of what he would do.
I have never read a story with the main character experiencing relationship abuse. Chris was seriously the creepiest, obsessive, and possessive character I have read so far. I actually felt Madison's fear towards Chris, and I just hated him. To think that girls go through what Madison went through with Chris, just makes me sick. This is where I had my hate relationship with Madison's character. I hated that she let herself be manipulated by Chris and let herself be both physically and mentally/verbally abused by him. I know that most of the girls that experience domestic abuse are either in denial, or feel that they don't have anyone that will help them. Ashley Piscitelli did an incredible job with bringing and centering relationship abuse in Playing with Fire.
He leaned in and gave me a quick kiss. “You deserve the world, baby, and I wanna help give it to you if you’ll let me.”
I loved the relationship between Carter and Madison. I believe I already mentioned what an amazing guy Carter is, when it comes to treating Madison like she is the most important person in his world. I love all the details Carter does to demonstrate how much he loves Madison, and to demonstrate how important she is in his life. My heart seriously ached for these two when Madison sacrifices her happiness to protect Carter. But when these two are together it is a sweet and caring relationship.
There went another little piece of my heart to him. I barely had any of it left; he had been taking it piece by piece ever since we met.
Playing with Fire by Ashley Piscitelli is a great start to a two series book. I feel in love with the whole concept of the story, and completely feel in love with both Madison and Carter. Ashley Piscitelli delivers love, happiness, grief, realistic situations, and two character's that will play with fire to be with each other. I just have to say one thing. Ashley Piscitelli WHY did you have to end Playing with Fire with a CLIFF-HANGER?!?! OMG, please tell me that it is a cliff-hanger, and it doesn't just end like that. My jaw just dropped to the floor with the ending. You can not just end Playing With Fire like that. I am seriously dying over here to get my hands on Breaking Through The Wall!!!!
Final Verdict: 4.5 Stars
Excerpt #5:
He turned around and smiled when he saw me. When he started to walk over to me doing his sexy strut and wrapped his arms around me, I was ready to drag him into the bedroom.
“Some amazing man left me a cute surprise on your pillow.”
He smirked. “He better not still be here, because I made you breakfast.”
I laughed and leaned up to kiss him. Moments like this were the best; just being able to relax and enjoy being happy together. “Happy Valentines Day, baby!” He pulled back and frowned at me. “What?”
“You stole my line!” I laughed and he kissed me again. “Happy Valentines Day, baby! C’mon, let’s eat.”

My Thoughts:
Well, sometimes paradise isn't all it's cracked up to be.
Where do I begin? Heartbeat by Faith Sullivan was totally different from the other New Adult contemporary romance books I've read. It is just full of unexpected events. I loved the story, because it is just so different from what I've read. There is your typical helpless and broken girl falls in love with the sweet and caring boy, but the story itself does not make it seem like that. I know I am getting ahead of myself here, but the ending left me shocked. I had to re-read it twice to comprehend what had just happened.
Everything he does seems to draw me in.
There's some invisible force pulling me toward this girl. I can't explain it, but I can definitely feel it.
The two main character's, Katie and Adam, meet in a very unexpected circumstances. Who would ever think that you would have an instinct attraction and connection to a paramedic? The moment they lay eyes on each other, there is an instant connection that they can't explain. I enjoyed reading from both Katie and Adam's POV, but there were times in the story that it just felt that it was a repetition from the others POV. I mean it is obvious that they are feeling the exact same connection and emotions towards each other, but I really didn't like re-reading the same thing over.
It is second nature for me to shut people out.
I liked Katie's character :). At first she does come off as being snarky, because this girl doesn't live in a perfect world. Her mother is not in her life, her father is way overprotective and obsessive with having her be in his house, and the only hope she has in her life is her grandmother. I seriously hated her father, because he is just creepy, violent, and possessive of her life. I would have loved to know what happens with Katie's mother, because we really don't know a lot about her. As the story progresses, Katie starts getting courage and being a little bit more independents. But she is just so fragile that she can't live without having someone to take care of here. I loved that she stood up to her father, but I did not like how weak her character was.
I wanted a fresh start, free from any entanglement.
Adam's character is a whole different story. I also liked his character, and I think I liked him more than Katie. At first, his character did not interest me much, but as I kept reading I found out that he is a guy that any girl would fall for. Adam is just your typical good boy-protective, caring, loving, and would jump in front of a bullet to protect the girl he loves. But of course he has a few skeleton in his closest that catch up to him in the new life he is building with Katie.
She is mine, and I am hers. It's as simple as that.
Faith Sullivan delivered a story of love between two people that have an instant connection and attraction towards each other the first moment they lay eyes on each other. But there are a lot of obstacles and situations they have to face in order to be together. Katie and Adam's story is how one guy can help a girl conquer her fears by helping her bring her heartbeat back to life. HeartBeat is just one of those books that you can sit down and read in one sitting. You will never know what to expect and the ending is just one of those 'what just happened here' moments.
Final Verdict: 4 Stars
Favorite Quotes:
"You don't need more heartache in your life. Just let him go. If he wants you, he'll make a move."
Please turn around. Meet me halfway. Give me the courage I need to make this work.
The sadness in her eyes rocked me to my core. All I want to do is kiss all that pain away.
I'm all in, and I want her to know that I'm playing for keeps.

I never intended to pick up a naked hitchhiker wearing nothing but a guitar. A guitar. Really. I don't collect guys like that (don't ask what kind of guys I do collect), but when you spot a blonde, tanned, sculpted man with a gorgeous smile and his thumb poking up and practically begging you to stop - you stop. And I definitely never thought I'd be staring into the bright blue eyes of Trevor Connor, the lead singer for Random Acts of Crazy, an indie rock star I followed like the slobbering fileshare fangirl I am. How he came to be nude and lost six hundred miles from home is quite the tale, but how we fell in love is even more unreal. Because someone like Trevor Connor, headed to Harvard Law next year, isn't supposed to want someone like me, a rural Ohio chick majoring in Boredom at Convenience Store University who is all curves and frizzy blonde hair and manners so unpolished they have sharp edges that make you bleed. But he did. When his best friend, Joe Ross, the bass player for Random Acts of Crazy and a man who makes Calvin Klein models look like Shrek, drove eleven hours through the night to rescue him, though, it got real complicated. It's one thing to like two different guys and be torn. What do you do, though, when maybe - just maybe - you don't have to choose? As my Aunt Josie says sometimes, "It's always complicated." *
Random Acts of Crazy is a standalone, full-length novel featuring Darla Jo(sephine) Jennings, the 22-year-old niece of Josie Mendham from the Her Two Billionaires series. It has, like many New Adult novels, an exploration of sexuality for the three main characters, doesn't shy away from mature content, and Darla has a sailor's mouth.

No one would suspect shy Lily Calloway’s biggest secret. While everyone is dancing at college bars, Lily stays in the bathroom. To get laid. Her compulsion leads her to one-night stands, steamy hookups and events she shamefully regrets. The only person who knows her secret happens to have one of his own.
Loren Hale’s best friend is his bottle of bourbon. Lily comes at a close second. For three years, they’ve pretended to be in a real relationship, hiding their addictions from their families. They’ve mastered the art of concealing flasks and random guys that filter in and out of their apartment.
But when they go on a family boat trip, surrounded by open seas and limited male bodies in sight, Lily’s confronted with a big fear. Only one guy onboard can fill her addiction, and she’s sworn off going there with Loren Hale ever again.
Now the only person who can truly help her can barely help himself.

My Thoughts:
I don't want to be fixed. I just want to live and feed my appetite. It just so happens that my appetite is a sexual one.
His vice is a bottle of whiskey.
Addicted to You was a refreshing read, and something completely different from all the New Adult books I've read this year. When I first heard about this book I thought it was going to be a great read. I was completely wrong. This is an AMAZING book! Krista and Becca Ritchie did an incredible job in writing a story in which two characters, Lily and Lo, suffer through their addictions together. I will admit that when Addicted to You reminded me of Ellen Hopkins. If you love reading Ellen Hopkins books-Crank, Glass, Fallout, etc- then you will definitely love Krista and Becca Ritchie's Addicted to You. The only difference is that Addicted to You is a New Adult book, and the situations Lily experiences with her addiction are raw and very out there.
I guess the only way to be close to me is to inject yourself in my world because I won't make the move to enter yours.
The water washes away the smell and grime, but my sins are here to stay. The memories don't vanish...
I never thought that I would love a character like Lily's- a sex addict with family issues. Once again I was completely wrong. As I read Addicted to You, I started to learn about Lily's sex addiction and I started to know her character in a whole different level. She is not just a shy, sex addict. She is a caring, loving, and broken girl that just needs the right person to stand by her side and understand what she is going through. I understand why she keeps her sex addiction a secret from her family, and why she shy's away from others. If I were in her shoes I would do the same thing, because people would not understand this sort of addiction. Heck, I've heard about sex addicts but after reading Addicted to You I learned a lot more. I know that all of this (what happens in the story) is not true, but at some point all addicts, in real life, will cross their own boundaries to get a high of their addiction. I seriously felt everything Lily had to go through in the book. I cried with her when she just felt lost and confused with all that was going on, and I felt her strong love towards Lo. By the end of Addicted to You, I felt a connection with Lily's character.
Loren Hale is an alcoholic beverage and he doesn't even know it.
Lo's face darkens in contempt. "Watch it, Lily." He picks up the bottle, unbroken, and reacts as though I hit his child.
What can I say about Loren (Lo) Hale? Just as Lily, Lo suffers from his
own addiction to alcohol. He is totally bad news, but a total swoon
worthy guy. I will admit that I don't like alcoholics, but his
thoughtfulness towards Lily and the way he cares for her made me love
him. He is even more emotionally broken than Lily. I believe that Lo
needs Lily more, then Lily needs Lo. I will admit that there are times
he is a total jerk to Lily, and at these moments I just felt like
slapping or punching him in the face. I already knew more about alcohol
addicts and what happens to them, because this is what health teachers
teach in all of their health classes. Like I said before I don't like
alcoholic addicts, but I just had to make that exception with Lo. Who
can resist a protective, caring, thoughtful hottie like Lo? NOT ME :D!
His character does develop (matures) by the end of this book, and I
can't wait to find out what happens to him in the second book :).
We're pretending, aren't we? I'm so confused. What is he to me right now? Friend, boyfriends, something else entirely?
The deeper we sink, the harder it is to crawl out.
At the beginning I really had no clue what was going on between Lily and Lo. He tells a guy that she is his girlfriend, but as I kept reading I find out that they are in a fake relationship. I seriously felt sorry for Lily, because she was so confused with Lo's loving affections and actions- this of course would only happen when their relatives, or known people would be watching them. Who would agree to be in a fake relationship? This is just torture for both Lily and Lo, because they are both confused with what the other one feels. The longer they stay in their fake the relationship the longer they hurt (not intentionally) one another. But the loving affections and actions between these two are both sweet and hot :D!
Our relationship is dangling on thin strings that threaten to break. I feel it. I'm sure he feels it as well.
When they start a serious relationship, it all starts off well. Lily is
getting her sex fix and Lo is still getting his alcohol fix. The sad
thing about their relationship is that they are just not that good for
each other, but at the same time so right for each other?!?. Does that
make any sense? Let me try to explain this :). Their addictions just get
in the way of their love towards each other. It just doesn't let them
love each other, and care for each other the way it is truly meant to
be. But at the same time Lo and Lily are always there for each others
breakdowns, and they are two broken people who can actually fix each
other with each others presence. Lily's and Lo's relationship is just as
broken as they are, but at the same time it is also kept together
because of their need to be close to each other. I really hope this
works out at the end for these two, because they are the perfect match
for each other :).
We've been friends, allies, for so long that I don't know who I am without him. Our lives intersect at every possible junction...
Krista and Becca Ritchie delivered an incredibly fresh debut in the New Adult genre. This is a book that you will not want to miss, trust me when I tell you that this is a MUST READ! There is romance, heartache, sorrow, real life problems (addiction & family), believable characters, and there is a twist that no one will expect (I didn't even see it coming). I will say this once again, if you love reading about true life problems, raw characters, and love reading Ellen Hopkins books, then Addicted to You by Krista and Becca Ritchie is the book for you :D!
Final Verdict: 5 Stars
Here are some Pic Quotes I've been posted on Twitter :).
About the Authors:
Becca Ritchie is a carnivore of pop culture, television, film and of course YA and NA books. While in college, she worked at The CW television network and put her vampiric knowledge to good use, blogging about hit series and swooning over actors’ abs. When she’s not blogging, she writes novels and has teamed up with her twin sister for their New Adult novel ADDICTED TO YOU. Available July of 2013.Krista Ritchie is the mind behind popular trading website YA Book Exchange and created Nawanda Files, a book blog that also features books into movies news. When not pouring over entertainment news and the newest releases, she spends her time conducting research in a genetics lab. She’s happy to join forces with her sister, harnessing their twin powers to produce the first in a New Adult series.
