WAITING ON MY REASON
BY DEVON ASHLEY
Release Date: January 21, 2014
New Adult Romantic Suspense
Synopsis:
Things always happen for a reason. I just wish I knew the why behind mine.
Five years ago, graduation wasn’t what it was supposed to be. Publicly
humiliated, Melanie was more than happy to kiss off her high school sweetheart.
But in doing so, she lost more than just her boyfriend, she lost the only other
guy she truly cared for – his best friend, Shane.
Shane loathed the idea of returning to his small hometown. He just wanted
to get in, help his best friend manage a legal matter, and get the hell back
out again. But he wasn’t expecting to run into the one girl who got away, who
always held a piece of his heart despite the animosity that lingered. Melanie
could’ve been the one, but after everything that happened, trust was a serious
issue.
Melanie just wanted to do right by her son. Shane just wanted to do right
by his best friend. And just when they think they can find the strength to
forgive the sins of the past, more secrets and lies bubble to the surface,
threatening to push them even farther apart.

CLICK.
It was nothing but a pin drop, but as
silent as this room was, it might as well have been a damn cannon blasting.
Both our heads twisted for the front door, where Chelsie was standing in awe,
already chuckling at us. “So this is what happens after hours.”
Shit!
I pushed against him. He reluctantly let me up and I yanked at my top, which
had risen up well above my belly button.
“Sorry, guys,” she said on her way to the
back of the bar, “but I think my wallet fell out of my bag here. I’ll just…”
She disappeared for a moment, then popped up flashing a silver square. “Found
it! I’ll just…go away now.”
“Oh! No, that’s okay,” I blurted. “Shane
was just leaving too.”
“What?” he cried.
I slammed my palms flat against his body. Dear God, there were some nice ridges hiding
under that shirt! My hands slid up to his pecks and pushed. “Yeah. You have
to go now.”
“Are you for real?” he asked. He was slowly
backing his way through the room but it had nothing to do with the strength of
my push…or lack thereof.
“Very. I can’t. I need to sleep on this.”
With a wicked smile, he flattened his hands
over mine and sassed, “I’m all for you sleeping on me. Let’s go.”
Chelsie burst out in laughter. Why the hell
hadn’t she left yet?
“Ha ha. You’re funny,” I sarcastically
remarked. “But not tonight.” I guided him all the way to the door. Chelsie had
already gone through and let it close behind her. “Good night, Shane.”
Suddenly, I was whipped around and slammed
against the wall, his body smothering mine, connecting what seemed every inch
of our bodies. Obviously, I wasn’t the only one aroused at the moment. “What,
no kiss goodnight?” he teased.
His eyes, his fingers as they caressed the
side of my face…it was all hypnotizing. And I wanted him so badly, enough that
I was on the verge of letting him take me right there. But hell if our first
time was going to be in this bar. With a whisper, I said, “If I kiss you, I
won’t be able to stop.”
His mouth became dangerously close. If I were to lick my lips
right now, I could easily hydrate his as well. “And why would that be such a
bad thing?” he whispered back.
